Each parent has choice in how they focus their energy and address the challenges they face. In this interactive, spirited series, participants will learn tools to parent with intention, care, and effectiveness. This will be a six week course that takes place on Tuesdays from 5:30 to 6:30pm and will begin September 19th and end on October 24th.

Coconino County's Superior Court employee Rossana is living as an inspiration of Health and Wellness!

 

 

 

 

"I have struggled with my weight for a while now, and exercising, eating well, taking care of me. 

 

I've always been good at taking care of others first

 

Over the years, I have read and learned so much about eating right and exercising and have found myself at the place of, Why don't I just do it!  I have a wealth of knowledge. When I did eat well, exercise, take care, I felt great. Why not keep doing it? Well, I'd get busy, weather would change, any excuse, really, and I would lose incentive. In the past couple of years I have had some health issues come up, which have slowly begun to wake me up to my overall health and well-being.   As I get older, I'm realizing this is nothing to fool around with.  My most recent experience health-wise was having my gallbladder removed in April 2017: a cholecystectomy.  The illness and pain I experienced was extreme. I probably ignored it for too long.   I went into the emergency department with a fever of 102.9.  I was nearly septic.    The next day, my gallbladder was removed, but I was still very ill. 

 

I ended up staying in the hospital 6 days.  While there, I told myself that as soon as I was able, I was going to get serious about my health.  

 

In a way it's been an experience that has turned my life around. I began at a weight of 186.  I am now 170, with the hopes of reaching a goal to 155.  I am no longer obese under the BMI scale, but am still considered to be overweight, so I'm working on it.  Having my gallbladder removed has changed my diet to eating clean.  My body can no longer process fat in the way it used to with a gallbladder.   I've cut down on both my fat and sugar intake.  I have more energy, and I'm loving it!  This inspiration lead me to change my healthcare to Vera Whole Health just to take advantage of all they are offering Coconino County employees. 

 

I got a battery for my dead Fitbit and am monitoring my steps daily.  I'm working toward the 10,000 steps per day goal.  I just now registered for the Wednesday Meet Up Walking downtown. 

 

I'm looking forward to walking with County employees, friends and family.  I've set up appointments with Shannon, the Whole Health Coach at Vera. She's helping me stay on track with baby-step goals so I don't get overwhelmed and give up.  I met with Wendy, an NP at Vera.  She's helping me get my biometric readings back on track.  I've met with Kara, the PT at Vera, who has helped with keeping me in an ergonomic good place to do my job.  

 

The support I am receiving through Vera has been life-changing.  

 

 I feel inspired and supported by Coconino County, NAPEBT, and the people I've met at Vera for offering these services. This is the push I needed.  I'm optimistic that I will reach my goal of having a healthy lifestyle as I age."

FAQs: 

Do I need to sign up? No. Just complete the coaching session, wellness exam, and biometric screening. Be sure to enter your biometrics into the wellness portal. Get your exam if completed outside of Vera. Your coaching session will be uploaded to the wellness site for you! 

 

What if I don't get all three done but to one or two?

That will still count toward your agency's percentage of

completion. Th e agency with the highest percentage in all three will get the prize. If two agencies tie more prizes will be given!

 

How can we tell if we are winning? We will be sending out regular updates on who has the highest percentage of completion for each category (exam, coaching, biometrics)

 

If I had my exam and biometrics completed in June or July will it still count? Yes! Any exams, coaching, or biometrics completed since May 16th 2017 until November 22nd will count toward your agency's percentage!

Can you earn wellness points by going to the Vera Clinic?

 

Yes. You can earn 4 points for completing your annual exam, 4 points for meeting with the health coach for 15 mins, 7 points for completing your biometric screening and entering into the online Health Risk Assessment, and up to 6 points for doing 6 sessions with the health coach. Add in a flu shot and you have your total 25 points. These points will automatically appear on your wellness portal and are able to be earned today!
