Application Process
Certain requirements must be met and steps taken to serve on a board or commission. Questions may be directed to the Office of the City Clerk.

Applicants must reside in City limits and be over the age of 18 years to be eligible to serve on a board or commission.

Applications

If you are interested in serving on a City board or commission, you may complete an online application or you can download the application form. Applications are accepted at any time throughout the year. They are kept on file in the City Clerk’s Office for a year; so, if the board or commission you’re interested in serving on does not have a current vacancy, you can be assured that you will be considered for future vacancies over the year.

Right to Have Your Application Heard in a Public Meeting
You have the right to have your application considered in a public meeting. If you wish to have your appointment discussed in a public meeting, the request must be in writing with an original signature and can be submitted at the time you make your application or at least 48 hours before the Council meeting at which the appointment will be made. It is not necessary for your application to be discussed publicly; however, it is a right that you may exercise.

Initial Appointments
Appointments to boards and commissions are generally for three-year terms. The terms on any given board or commission are staggered so that one or two naturally occurring vacancies take place during a calendar year. Sometimes, commissioners resign unexpectedly over the year, resulting in additional vacancies that need to be filled.

Reappointments
Incumbent board or commission members seeking to be reappointed must fill out a new application and submit it to the City Clerk’s Office. The application and accompanying information will be included with the applicant packets that go to the City Council for consideration.
