FMPO operates a regional transportation model to support long range, corridor, multimodal, and current planning. The model estimates the number of trips generated by 60 different land uses, dividing these into purposes such as work and school and mode such as transit or bike. Large, dense developments produce or attract the most trips and the number of trips to or from any destination is influenced by the distance or time travelled.
The model may be used to test “what if” scenarios such as increasing the number of lanes on a road, increasing transit service to a given area or the impacts of changing land uses.
