What to Expect Once I Am Hired
Police Officer
A two day new employee orientation takes place at City Hall
Assigned to the Special Enforcement squad to complete Pre Academy
Begin assigned Police Academy (duration approximately 4 months)
Upon successful graduation/completion, return to Special Enforcement squad for Post Academy training
Begin Field Training (FTO) assignment with a senior Officer (approximately 4 months)
Probationary Period
Probationary period is completed 1 year after your FTO training is complete
Dispatch
A two day new employee orientation takes place at City Hall
2 weeks new hire orientation (reading policy, ride alongs, geographic familiarization etc.)
2 weeks assigned to Records
4 weeks Phones Phase 1
4 weeks Phone Phase 2
4 weeks Fire Phase 1
4 weeks Fire Phase 2
4 weeks Info Phase 1
4 weeks Info Phase 2
4 weeks West Phase 1
4 weeks West Phase 2
Additional Details
All training phases are subject to change based on need for additional training time
Depending on hire date and training, there is the possibility of being sent to a 3 weeks dispatch academy (WALETA).
Probationary period is completed 1 year after hire date
