Sustainable Food Systems VISTA
The Sustainable Food Systems VISTA will work to build the capacity of Flagstaff's food system programming, from local food production to preventing household food waste. Much of the VISTA's work will focus on developing the connections and programming necessary to sustain greater engagement with the community gardens throughout Flagstaff, especially among underserved youth. The VISTA will also work to leverage existing community resources and knowledge to better reach underrepresented youth with food systems education, from gardening in neighborhood community gardens to food waste prevention lessons in Kindergarten through 12 classrooms.
Community Resilience VISTA
The Community Resilience VISTA will work to build the capacity of Flagstaff's neighborhood resilience programming, from building resilience education curriculum to fostering community collaborations. Much of the VISTA's work will focus on building relationships with community educators to incorporate resiliency education into their classrooms, particularly targeting underserved youth and residents living in poverty. The VISTA will also work to leverage existing community resources and knowledge to better reach underrepresented communities with resiliency and education communications.
The VISTA will work to build the community's overall resiliency and equity, through project planning, program implementation, research, evaluation and outreach activities.
Open Space Education & Outreach VISTA
The Open Space Education and Outreach VISTA will work towards providing equitable and accessible STEM programming for all sectors of the community, especially underserved populations. Much of the VISTA's work will include managing STEM education efforts by designing and implementing outdoor education opportunities, coordinating STEM-related classroom presentations, and developing online educational material. The VISTA will also work to engage the public through representation at annual events, social media, the program newsletter, and the coordination of volunteers.
