The City of Flagstaff conducted a broad community outreach over the course of 2022, to develop a concept design for the 8.5 acre parcel on the southeast side of Thorpe Park to incorporate into the larger regional park.  Community Surveys, Information E-Sessions, and Onsite Design Sessions were hosted to gather insight from the Flagstaff Community to inform concept designs.

Flagstaff Parks, Recreation, Open Space, and Events (PROSE), Southwest Decision Resources (SDR), and Wheat Design Group (WDG) collaborated to present a final concept to Flagstaff City Council with a final adoption on December 6, 2022.

The final concept included many elements that that public indicated were important to consider:

  • An Indigenous Community Cultural Center
  • Gardens and Orchards
  • Pickleball and Basketball Courts
  • Medium Sized Event Space
  • A Skate/bike/pump track combo
  • A Relocated Dog Park
  • Loop Trail Around the Parcel
  • Open Spaces for Gathering
